Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease that causes problems with memory, reasoning, behavior and motor skills. Symptoms of Alzheimer’s slowly worsen over time, and the disease is ultimately fatal.
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, which is defined as a loss of cognitive functioning and behavioral abilities that interferes with daily life. Other forms of dementia include vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, and frontotemporal dementia. Each of these diseases has its own set of specific symptoms.
Risk for Alzheimer’s increases greatly with age. After reaching 65, one’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s doubles roughly every five years, reaching almost fifty percent by age 85. When the disease begins before the age of 65, it is known as early-onset or younger-onset Alzheimer’s.

The American Cancer Society - Melanoma
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of 2 million volunteers saving lives in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 25 percent decline in the cancer death rate in the U.S. since 1991, driven by less smoking, better treatments, and earlier detection. We're finding cures as the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings and more.
Melanoma is less common than some other types of skin cancer, but it is more likely to grow and spread. Taking proper precautions when in the sun and keeping a lookout for abnormal moles can help lower your risks of getting melanoma, as well as other skin cancers.
